More 5-Star Google Reviews Than Any Other Idaho Injury Law Firm

Recent reports indicate a significant risk of melanoma skin cancer for men who use the drugs Viagra® or Revatio® (sildenafil citrate). These drugs are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) as well as symptoms of pulmonary hypertension. Pfizer, the drug manufacturer, failed to properly test and warn Viagra® users of this deadly side effect while continuing to make billions of dollars from consumers.

Viagra® Side Effect

One of the most commonly-used sex drugs, Viagra®, is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Although the drug is mainly referred to as the magic pill for men, consuming Viagra® can pose some health concerns, some of which might be severe. Some of these health risks were not made clear by Pfizer, Viagra’s® manufacturer, during the drug’s release.

If you have been severely affected by any side effects, you might be liable for a claim against Pfizer. But, you don’t have to go it alone. An experiencedIdaho Medical Malpractice Lawyer at Litster Frost Injury Attorneys can passionately steer a successful claim process.

What Are The Common Viagra® Side Effects?

Although it is commonly known for treating erectile dysfunction in men, Viagra® (also referred to as Sildenafil) has various side effects. Some of the minor side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Difficulty staying or falling asleep
  • Light sensitivity
  • Nosebleeds
  • Tingling or numbness of the hands, feet, legs, and arms
  • Flushing
  • Diarrhea
  • Muscle aches
  • Changes in the ability to see color, like experiencing difficulty determining the difference between blue or green

Additionally, various side effects warrant reaching out to a medical practitioner immediately, including:

  • Ringing in the ears
  • Blurred vision
  • Chest pain
  • Strokes
  • Worsening shortness of breath
  • Itching or burning during urination
  • Sudden severe vision loss
  • Dizziness
  • Rash, or at worst, Melanoma skin cancer
  • A painful erection or one that lasts longer than 4 hours

Melanoma Victims May Be Owed Millions by Pfizer, the maker of Viagra®

The April 2014 issue of the Journal of American Medicine, JAMA Internal Medicine published results of a study which showed that men who used Viagra® or Revatio® had an 84% higher chance of developing melanoma than those who did not use the drug. In the study of 26,000 men, the results indicated an increased risk of melanoma even when the researchers took other known risk factors into account, including where the patients lived (ultraviolet light exposure), family history of cancer, and serious illnesses.

There are 75,000 new cases of melanoma diagnosed each year. Two-thirds who are diagnosed are men. There are almost 10,000 melanoma-related deaths each year.

A number of news agencies have reported on the study, yet no steps have been taken by Pfizer to warn the public of this potentially deadly consequence.

What Damages Can You Recover From Your Viagra® Side Effect Claim?

Every claim is unique, so it’s difficult to estimate exactly what damages you may recover in your claim. Nevertheless, some of the most common damages victims can successfully recover in similar cases include lost wages, emotional distress, pain and suffering, medical expenses (medication, treatments, surgeries, doctor’s visits), and other associated expenses.

In the case of wrongful death, the families can pursue damage with a wrongful death claim. Some of the entitled costs to such a claim include funeral costs, loss of consortium, lost benefits and wages offered by the deceased, loss of companionship, support, and protection.

How Can the Statute of Limitations Possibly Impact Your Case?

Every state has its own statute of limitations, setting time limits on how long victims have to file a personal injury claim. Drug-related damages can be complex and difficult to determine when the clock started for filing your Viagra® lawsuit.

With an experienced Idaho personal injury lawyer on your side, they can explain how the statute of limitations may impact your claim (usually 2 years). They also assess your case and explain what alternatives you have to seek damages in your unique circumstances.

Filing A Viagra® Side Effect Claim

All manufacturers of prescription drugs must perform safety tests on the drugs and ensure that any possible health risks are known to the general public. If the manufacturer fails to oblige, they have breached the duty of care to their customers and can be held accountable for any damages.

If you believe that you might have a cause of action against the manufacturer of the erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra®, don’t hesitate to take action and file a claim. Schedule a consultation today at Litster Frost Injury Attorneys for a review of your potential case.
